BiLE Perform at Symphony Hall – 29 May 2012

A FREE post-concert performance of new and older works by BiLE (Birmingham Laptop Ensemble) in the Birmingham Symphony Hall Cafe Bar after Dracula: The Music and Film.

We will be performing Back to Front by Julien Guillamat, a new work by Shelly Knotts and Chained Melody, a new collaborative work by BiLE specially composed for this great occasion. Not to miss!

BiLE to perform at TEDxBrum

We’re honored to be playing at the first ever TEDx in Birmingham on 24th March. The theme of the conference is The Next Revolution, which will bring together lots of inspirational local thinkers and practicioners.

Birmingham’s inaugural TEDx event will bring the TED spirit of ideas worth spreading to our city for the very first time, igniting a passion for spreading ideas in local communities and beyond. The aim is to spark deep conversations and connections, bringing together people from different backgrounds from across the city to inspire both thought and action.

We’ll unfortunately be missing most of it as we’ll be in Sheffield playing at Lovebytes. We’ll be playing XYZ and Sonnations towards the end of the day. Tickets have unfortunately all gone but you can watch a live stream of it here

In the first of our gigs for March 24th we’ll be heading out to Sheffield to perform at Placard Headphone Music Festival as part of Lovebytes 2012

Bring your own headphones and plug-in! Part of the Placard international network of headphone and internet streaming music events, this mini-music festival in the centre of the Winter Garden features quick fire performances by Sarah Angliss, Nice, John Moseley, Ron Wright, Yaxu, Ideoforms, Bile Laptop Ensemble, Deliberate + more TBC. Le Placard (meaning cupboard in French) began in a small apartment in Paris in 1998. It has since grown into an international streaming festival concept in cities across the world as part of festivals such as Mutek, Garage, Pixelache and now Lovebytes, thanks to Alex McLean (Yaxu) who has curated this programme. Bring your own headphones and plug-in from 11:00 to 12:40 and 13:40 to 15:20.

The event takes place at Winter Garden (map) from 11:00 to 12:40 and 13:40 to 15:20

We’ll be on early in the day, so be sure to get there at 11:00!

BiLE will now be performing in the 7:30pm concert on Friday, 27 January in the Network Music Festival at The Edge 79-81 Cheapside, Deritend, Birmngham, B12 0QH. We will be playing XYZ and the premiere of Act 2 of the Laptopera, The Death of Stockhausen.

The Network Music Festival is the first ever festival dedicated to music made involving computer networking and is three days of concerts, workshops, talks and installations. It’s well-worth a look (and is put together by several BiLE members!).

BiLE has been selected to play at famous Birmingham festival Artsfest.

We will be playing at the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery in the Round Room Gallery Saturday the 10th of September at 15.30. BiLE will be performing Julien Guillamat‘s Back to Front an electroacoustic cello sonata and Stucknote by Scot Gresham-Lancaster of our favourite laptop band: The Hub. As usual, there’ll be visuals from Antonio Roberts.

The piece XYZ written for BiLE by member Shelly Knotts has been festured in a new e-zine, CNCPTN by Simon Kinch. The e-zine is available online at: http://cncptn.com/ and is also available as a downloadable pdf. The e-zine aims to showcase music from young composers with a strong conceptual or design element. BiLE have performed XYZ in Oslo, Venice and Birmingham and it was also recently performed at ton:art 2011 by Benoit and the Mandelbrots.

‘ + NEW SOUND BY CONCEPT AND DESIGN

10 works by 10 young composers and artists; where each piece has been conceived not only with the final sonic result in mind, but also to express or represent some pre-conceived concept or design.

CNCPTN is a new bi-monthly e-zine focusing on the concepts and designs behind the work by selected young composers and artists.

Each issue will profile the concepts and designs behind this type of composition and artwork, providing a platform for composers and artists to display more than just the audio they create, no matter how detailed or abstracted the original stimulus may be.’
